Description
Attractive four-to-five-foot plant with green leaves. Looks great in the vegetable (or flower!) garden. Grows best in areas with hot weather. Produces tender burgundy 6-8″ pods with excellent yields. Slender, pointed pods are used in soups-especially gumbo and stews. It won an All America Selections award in 1988.
Direct sow in a sunny location in late spring after the soil has completely warmed. For transplants, start indoors 4 to 6 weeks before average last frost date. Transplant seedlings outside after last frost. For best flavor and highest yield, pick okra every two or three days when pods reach about two to four inches long. Older pods get tough and stringy.
